NASHVILLE, Tenn. — State Senator Ken Yager (R-Kingston) and Representative Dennis Powers (R-Jacksboro) announced today that LaFollette will receive a $366,210 grant from the Tennessee Department of Transportation (TDOT) for downtown revitalization.
The Transportation Alternatives Grant will fund Phase 3 construction of sidewalks along the west side of SR-9 (Indiana Avenue) from N. Tennessee Avenue to Beech Street. It also includes ADA compliant upgrades, brick stamp pavers, striping, pedestrian lighting and other pedestrian amenities to the area.
“This is great news for LaFollette,” said Senator Yager. “I am very pleased these funds will be available to make downtown LaFollette a more accessible and beautiful place for residents and visitors alike. These improvements will help small businesses and the future impact on our community’s economic development is undeniable.”
“We are very pleased to receive this sizable grant,” said Representative Powers. “This kind of infrastructure is not only good for our citizens to enjoy but helps invite new citizens and industry to our community.”
The Transportation Alternatives Grant Program began providing funds to local governments in 1991.
