(NASHVILLE), February 11, 2019 – Senate Republican Caucus Chairman Ken Yager (R-Kingston) met with Tennessee Department of Economic and Community Development Commissioner Bob Rolfe in Nashville today to discuss actions being taken to help the state’s 15 economically distressed counties. Three of the counties, Morgan, Scott and Fentress Counties, are located in District 12 which is represented by Yager in the Tennessee Senate.
Among topics, the officials talked about at the meeting were bringing higher family wage jobs to the counties and the expansion of broadband to help spur economic development.
“We talked about the governor’s rural initiatives and how the state can help our distressed counties,” said Sen. Yager. “We specifically discussed initiatives that would help Morgan, Scott and Fentress Counties,” said Sen. Yager. “I am very encouraged at the actions being taken by Governor Lee and Commissioner Rolfe to address the problems facing these counties. I will be working with them fully to ensure that legislation and other initiatives will be implemented during this legislative session that will help our counties grow and thrive, and give our citizens new job opportunities.”
