(NASHVILLE) – State Senator Ken Yager (R-Kingston) and State Representatives Kent Calfee (R-Kingston) and Ron Travis (R-Dayton) announced today that the Harriman Utility Board will receive a $45,000 Infrastructure Planning grant from the Tennessee Department of Economic and Community Development (TNECD). The grant is part of the Rural Economic Opportunity (REO) fund designed to better address unique water and sewer needs of rural Tennessee counties, particularly those with financially distressed water systems.
“This important grant is great news for Harriman,” said Sen. Yager. “It will result in infrastructure improvement which means a more efficiently run system. I congratulate the work of Harriman officials for recognizing the need and submitting a professional application.”
Grant funding will help utility districts better serve their customers, develop capital improvement plans and develop better applications for funding to assist with additional upgrades. Funds can be used for water loss studies and the investigation and/or system mapping for water or wastewater systems.
“Harriman Utility Board has been providing electric, natural gas, drinking water, and more to our citizens for many decades,” said Rep. Calfee. “This infrastructure grant funding will help keep our utilities up to date as our community continues to grow and attract new businesses. It was great working with our local elected officials on this grant application, and I will continue to fight for additional resources to help improve the overall quality of life for our citizens.”
“As our community continues to grow, it is important that our infrastructure, such as the utility system, is up to date and prepared to meet the demands of our citizens,” said Rep. Travis. “This important grant funding will provide our local leaders and community with the resources they need to better prepare for the future. I am pleased to have worked with our local elected officials to secure this funding, and I will continue to provide assistance as needed.”
