(NASHVILLE), January 9, 2020 — Senator Ken Yager (R-Kingston) made the following statement regarding Governor Bill Lee’s visit to the Tennessee College of Applied Technology (TCAT) Oneida/Huntsville where he announced a $1 million GIVE Act grant. Yager was co-prime sponsor of the Governor’s Investment in Vocational Education (GIVE) Act<https://publications.tnsosfiles.com/acts/111/pub/pc0203.pdf> in the General Assembly last year.
Sen. Yager said, “We welcome Governor Lee and are very appreciative of his efforts to support students at TCAT Oneida/Huntsville. Our TCATs do an incredible job in preparing students for the workplace. While raising the number of citizens with a post-secondary credential or degree helps us recruit new and better paying jobs and increases our economic output, it is only part of the story. More importantly is the positive impact that earning that degree has on students and their families. I continue to hear success stories from students who have graduated from our TCATs. This $1 million GIVE Act grant will increase opportunities for local students to experience this success and I look forward to continuing to work with the Governor to support our TCATs in the 2020 legislative session.”
